Monday Morning Hot Links
The Transfer Window doesn’t open until June 1 (and then again on June 16 due to the Club World Cup - it’s weird), so the game is for agents to get their players in the news as much as possible to drum up interest.
Like Leeds (and Brighton) being linked to Union Saint-Gilloise forward Promise David! In 24 matches (16 starts) in Belgium’s top league, the Canadian registered 11 goals and four assists, the 11 goals good enough for 5th in the league.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Israeli international/Leeds United loanee Manor Solomon is interested in playing in the Premier League next season, but the question is: where? French Ligue 1 side Marseille have expressed an interest, but that’s apparently been ruled out for “political reasons.” Will Tottenham restructure his contract, or sell him to Leeds?
Is Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim hilariously going to walk out this summer?
Ajax did it! One of the largest title collapses in soccer history is complete! Ajax had a nine-point lead in the Dutch Eredivisie with seven games to play and, despite winning yesterday, finished in 2nd, one point behind PSV Eindhoven. Ajax manager Francesco Farloli is leaving, one year into a three-year contract. BBC: Nine Points & The 99th Minute - How Ajax Blew The Title.
What I love about Italian soccer is that it’s hopelessly corrupt and bizarre, not unlike a terrible soap opera, and you just kind of hope that your team doesn’t get caught up in the murder of your own twin brother. A few days ago this space linked to the drama at the bottom end of Serie B (the 2nd tier of Italian soccer), in which Sampdoria - owned by previous Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani - had been relegated to Serie C for the first time in their history, while Brescia - owned by previous previous Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino - had ensured their survival in the second tier. HOWEVER! Thanks to an “irregularity in payments” by Brescia (not out of character for Cellino!), Brescia is set to get a four-point deduction. This would drop Brescia from 43 points (15th Place) to 39 points, below Sampdoria, and into Serie C.
